All About Auditions for
Cheaper by the Dozen
Audition sign-ups will open in July 2025.
Actors are welcome to create a Cast98 account ahead of time, but sign-ups won’t be available until then. To be the first to know when auditions go live, be sure to sign up for our newsletter. For The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, audition spots filled quickly and we unfortunately had to turn people away—so we strongly encourage you to sign up as soon as registration opens!
When is the next audition?
Auditions for Cheaper by the Dozen will take place on September 13th, beginning at 10 a.m. at New Song Bible Church
470250 US-95
Sagle, ID 83860
How does it work?
Create a free Cast 98 account to sign up for audition slots when they become available. Parents can manage profiles for all their children—as well as their own—using a single account. All Honey Pearl Productions shows will use this platform going forward, so once your profile is set up, you'll be able to use it for future productions as well.
Please prepare a monologue of your choosing no longer than five minutes but at least one minute in length. Poems, scripture and real world speeches are acceptable. Tons of free monologues are available on the internet.
Who can audition?
Anyone who is at least 6 years old. There are nine to eleven roles for children. There are two to four roles for men. There are three roles for women. The majority of the characters will be played by children but Frank Gilbreth Sr. (the patriarch of the family) is the lead role. Please reach out if you have specific questions about specific roles. Read about the characters here.
Do I need experience to audition?
Nope! This is community theater. Whether a seasoned pro or newbie you are welcome.
What if I want a specific role?
You will be given the opportunity to denote on your audition form what roles you want or do not want. No role is promised but we do our best to place people where they will be happiest! Read about the characters here.
Will everyone who auditions get a role?
Casting decisions will depend on how many people audition, but it's very likely that there will be cuts.
What is the time commitment?
Rehearsals begin on September 18th and will be held three nights a week at 6:00 p.m., on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. All rehearsals will take place at New Song Bible Church in Sagle. Check out the full rehearsal calendar here.
Performances will begin with an evening show on Friday, January 30th, followed by two shows on Saturday, January 31st, and one matinee on Sunday, February 1st. A special charity performance will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 4th. Followed by an evening performance on Friday, February 6th, and a matinee on Saturday, February 7th. Standard showtimes are 7:00 p.m. on Fridays, 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays (if there are two shows), and 3:00 p.m. on Sundays.
Will you be casting families again?
Unlike The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, we will not be able to guarantee roles for all family members. Parents should prepare their children for the possibility that one sibling may be offered a role while another is not. If your child would only want to accept a role if their sibling is also cast, please note that clearly on your audition form.
Is it a musical?
Nope!
What does it cost to participate?
Actors will need to provide their own shoes, appropriate undergarments, and basic stage makeup for the show. While Honey Pearl Productions will not be purchasing makeup, we will guide you on what to buy and show you how to apply it correctly. Everything else is covered by us!
How will I find out if I am cast?
Everyone will find out whether or not they’ve been cast in the same order: newsletter subscribers will be notified first, then the cast list will be posted on social media, and finally, a direct email will be sent to all who auditioned.
Are there other ways to get involved?
Yes! We are always in need of more volunteers to do a variety of tasks from stage crew to set building to helping take tickets at the door! Please inquire if you are interested in getting involved.
